Crystal City's Water Park Became the Neighborhood's All-Day Kitchen This Year

Most of what opened in Crystal City in 2026 opened in a single line of kiosks on Crystal Drive. Spot of Tea arrived at Water Park in March. Monstera followed soon after. Pizzeria Paradiso Pronto began its soft opening in June, and Duke's Burgers opened on July 1. Each one is small. Their posted hours overlap, though, so together they cover most of the day.

So the stretch of Crystal Drive between roughly 1600 and 1700 now works as the neighborhood's default kitchen. The other 2026 openings, a Uyghur restaurant on 23rd Street, a sushi spot on 11th Street and a wine bar farther south on Crystal Drive, are better treated as planned outings. Most of the fall calendar runs on the same split.

How the hours stack up

Water Park's site lists the park itself as open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The table below uses the hours each business currently posts on its own site, which in several cases differ from the hours announced at opening.

Kiosk Address Posted hours
Monstera 1721 Crystal Drive 9 a.m.–3 p.m. daily, until 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday
Spot of Tea 1631 Crystal Drive 9:30 a.m.–8 p.m. daily
Pizzeria Paradiso Pronto 1611 Crystal Drive 11 a.m.–9 p.m. daily
Duke's Burgers 1621 Crystal Drive 11 a.m.–8:30 p.m. daily
Water Bar Water Park Mon–Thu 3–9 p.m., Fri 3–10 p.m., Sat 11:30 a.m.–10 p.m., Sun 11:30 a.m.–9 p.m.

Read down the columns and the handoffs show up. Monstera and Spot of Tea cover the morning. Pronto and Duke's open at 11 for lunch. Water Bar picks up at 3 on weekdays and stays open latest, until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Monstera's weekend evening hours add a second dinner option on the nights the block is busiest. There is no point between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on any day when every kiosk is closed.

These hours have already changed once. Monstera launched with 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day and now posts a shorter weekday schedule. Duke's announced 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at launch and now lists 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Spot of Tea opened at 11 a.m. and now opens at 9:30. Before you plan a weekday breakfast around any of them, check the business's own page. The park's directory and the BID's roundups have trailed these changes.

The directory also lists Call Your Mother, Fat Fish, PhoWheels, Queen Mother's and Bird's Eye Thai. That same directory leaves out Duke's, even though Duke's is open and its own listing is live, so it's safest to treat the directory as a starting point and not as a current roster.

Two addresses south: 2011 Crystal Drive

Altitude, a wine bar decorated around an air travel theme, was open at 2011 Crystal Drive by mid-June. Constellation, a café in the same building, was on the National Landing BID's June list of new arrivals.

These two extend the Water Park block more than they compete with it. A café for the morning and a wine bar for the evening, a short walk down Crystal Drive, fill the same parts of the day the kiosks cover, but indoors and with seats. As temperatures drop, that difference starts to matter.

The openings worth planning around

Away from Crystal Drive, the 2026 openings are full restaurants. They're the places you plan for, as opposed to the places you stop at on the way home.

Dolan Uyghur, 320 23rd Street S. It soft-opened in late July as the fifth location of a growing Uyghur restaurant group, which also has a spot in Falls Church that opened in 2024. The restaurant describes its food as 100% halal and leads with hand-pulled noodles and kebabs. At its other locations the menu includes big plate chicken over hand-pulled flat noodles, arlash korma with stir-fried lamb and wood ear mushrooms, and goshnan, a meat pie made with beef and lamb. When ARLnow reported the opening in August, online ordering did not appear to be available for this location, so plan on dining in.

Seki Sushi, 480 11th Street S. It opened in late June with a long sushi roll menu, at the northern end of the neighborhood.

Maman, 1450 S. Eads Street. The BID listed it among the neighborhood's new arrivals in June.

One more opening isn't food at all. Twins Ace Hardware held its grand-opening weekend at 2051 S. Bell Street starting May 29. If you live in one of the nearby buildings, that probably saves more trips this year than any restaurant on the list.

What has not opened yet

Several projects announced earlier this year have not been confirmed open as of early October. Most of them sit on the Bell Street and 19th Court S. side of the neighborhood, west of the Water Park block.

  • Paris Baguette, 2000 S. Bell Street. In March, JBG Smith projected a third-quarter 2026 opening, with planned hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The third quarter ended September 30, and no opening has been confirmed. Its Clarendon location opened on July 1.
  • Soko Butcher, 269 19th Court S., Suite 95. The butcher and deli, known for its cheesesteaks, was aiming for a late-summer opening. In June the BID still listed it as coming in 2026.
  • Pilates on the Mat, 269 19th Court S. It was announced in March with signage and a permit application and no opening date.
  • Tiki Thai, 244 19th Court S. at Reva. Its opening moved from summer or fall 2026 to summer 2027 while permitting continues.
  • Scapegoat Beer Garden, 556 22nd Street S. In June, ARLnow reported that the space was back on the leasing market and that no building permit, inspections or certificate of occupancy had been issued.

Put together, this list explains why Water Park carries so much of the load. The sit-down restaurants and the bakery that would round out the western blocks are still on their way. For now, the kiosks on Crystal Drive are filling that gap.

The October calendar

The free fall programming from the National Landing BID mostly happens at Metropolitan Park, 1330 S. Fair Street, a short trip west into Pentagon City. One event starts back at Water Park. Here's what is left after today:

  1. Wednesday, October 7, 14 and 21, 5:30–6:30 p.m. Fit @ Met, free instructor-led classes run with United Fray. No experience needed, and registration is through Eventbrite.
  2. Thursday, October 8 and 15, 5–7 p.m. NaLa Noches, the BID's Latin music series. New this year is a short beginner-friendly dance lesson from Inspira Dance during the set break. Peruvian Brothers serves food on site, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington runs art activities. October 15 is the last date of the series.
  3. Friday, October 16, 6–8 p.m. The last Met Park Movie Night of the series, which has run every other Friday since September 4. No registration needed.
  4. Thursday, October 22, 10 a.m.–noon. The National Landing Community Cleanup, starting at Water Park, 1601 Crystal Drive.

The evening events end at 7 or 8 p.m. Every kiosk on the hours table is still open at 7, and Pronto and Water Bar stay open until at least 9. That makes the walk back to Crystal Drive for dinner easy to time.

Winter at Water Park, and what comes later

Water Park's winter page describes fire pits, an ice skating rink, and s'mores and fondue at Water Bar. The page doesn't list any 2026 dates yet. Last season, the Water Park Neighborhood Holiday Market ran December 12 and 13, 2025, from 5 to 9 p.m. If the winter setup comes back, Water Park keeps its role into the cold months. If you're counting on it, the park's calendar page is the one to watch.

The public projects that will change how people reach the block are further out. The Crystal City Metro Station East Entrance, at the northwest corner of Crystal Drive and 18th Street S., is expected to be finished in summer 2027. Arlington projects construction on the 23rd Street Plaza at 501 23rd Street S. in 2027 and completion in 2028, which would put a new public space near Dolan Uyghur. The county is collecting feedback this fall on the final draft for Metro Market Square, the planned park framed by Crystal Square, 18th Street S., Crystal Drive and S. Bell Street, with construction projected for 2028.
