Tysons Corner is a dense retail, businses, and (incresaingly) residential center in Fairfax County, VA. The transformation from the 1950s intersection surrounded by farmland and a few stores, intensifided over the last few decades. Tysons Corner's status was solidified for many as a dynamic, robust, and comprehensive urban center in July 2014 when three new Metro stations started serving the area. Since the 90s and 2000s, it has served as the headquarters for major national corporations like Freddie Mac, Capital One, and Booz Allen Hamilton. One drawback that Tysons Corner planners area working hard to address is its walkability; its wide streets, heavily trafficked intersections, and lack of bikelanes leave the superblocks often feeling like silos inaccessible without a car. Tysons corner is made up of many building types. The more recent construction has featured glass curtain wall or brick exteriors. Unlike DC, Tysons real estate isn't restricted to thirteen stories, and there are a number if true high-rise buildings with impressive views.
 
For a long time Tysons Corner was jampacked during the weekdays and shut down in the evenings as workers and shoppers retreated. But with a concerted effort to add homes, Tysons is slowly becoming a round-the-clock dynamic area with more housing options. There are few single-family homes, with a few housing developments north of Rte 267, and some split-level homes in the south. Tysons also offers apartment complexes, some of which are new and shiny and some that are somewhat dated but more affordable. Tysons residential real estate consists of condos and townhouses. Condos come in a range of options, from garden-style buildings to more recently-constructed high-rise towers with luxury finishes and notable amenities.
 

Restaurants, Retail, and Entertainment

Tysons Corner was long, and to many still is, synonymous with retail, with Tysons Corner Center serving as one of the DC area's - and even the nation's - top shopping malls. Between Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria (the Tysons Corner Center's upscale sibling immediately north), and the growing demand outside of the shopping malls, diners can find just about any cuisine they're looking for. Food options abound, from independent Korean barbecue restaurants to Founding Farmers (local farm--to-table chain), to national chains like Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Also available in Tysons are Lebanese Taverna and Neishai Thai. Tysons offers shopper two grocery stores, including a Harris Teeter, and a Walmart. Tysons has several movie theaters, an top-of-the-line sprawling Sport & Health fitness center/spa. Wolf Trap, featuring national musicians and shows like Ziggy Marley, John Legend, the National Symphony Orchestra, Gypsy Kings, and Lyle Lovett.

Transportation

Tysons auto traffic has historically been prolific. In July 2014, Tysons gained three Metro stations on the new Silver line: Mclean station to the east (next to the Capital One headquarters), Tysons Corner station located adjacent to Tysons Corner Center shopping mall, and Greensboro station to the west. The silver line connects with Arlington and DC, and westward to Reston and (eventually) Dulles International Airport (IAD).
